Trials are a wonderful way for us to meet and discuss your hair needs to create your perfect wedding look. It also gives you the opportunity to see the style you love, and how you can expect to look on your special day.
So, what is the key secret to great wedding hair? Read below to find out what to expect and how to prepare for your hair trial.
The perfect time for your hair trial is 1-6 months prior to your wedding day, by this time all the finer wedding details are sorted. If you have a certain date in mind for your trial, please book at least 8 weeks out from your intended date.
The clothes you wear to your trial can have an affect on how you see the finished product. If you wear something comfortable your style will lean towards a more casual style compared to a formal hairstyle. Wear something that gives you the look and feeling of being polished, that way your will get a better feel for how your hair will look on your wedding day.
Prepare your hair
Hair preparation is a particularly crucial step to ensure your wedding style lasts all day and night. Clean hair is best! Forget the term “dirty” when styling; you will get beautiful, longer lasting results when your hair is washed the night before.

To visualise your wedding look, it is recommended to schedule your hair and makeup trial on the same day.
Bring your inspiration photos
Start an inspiration library on your phone or create a Pinterest board. Save photos of hair styles that you like and might want on your wedding day. Include how you prefer your veil or your accessories to be positioned. That way I can gauge your likes and dislikes to personalise your style to a look that you love.
It is important to not expect exactly what you see in your inspiration photos. Keep in mind that the model, celebrity or bride in the photo is not you. Don’t forget that your face, skin, complexion and features different, and each bride is unique. Most of the styles that you will come across will have some sort of hair piece or extension added to create volume and fullness to the hair. Replicating that exact hairstyle on yourself may change the way you feel about that picture you originally loved. Based on your inspiration, I will work with you to customise a look to suit your wedding style.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions and seek guidance if you aren’t sure about anything during your trial. Any feedback is great feedback! This helps me to understand how your hair and if we need to make any tweaks for your wedding. If you decide the style is not for you, we can definitely organise another trial to try something different (I had 2 trials for my wedding😉)
Bring hair accessories
If you have purchased and decided on wearing hair accessories, bring them along so we can trial them in your hair. However, if you are still on the fence whether to add something to your hair, I have some accessories in my kit that may help you decide if accessories are for you.
Consider your wedding month
When deciding on what styles to choose for your wedding, it is great to keep in the back of your mind the month and location of your wedding. Some examples might be if you are getting married in winter outside, you have a high chance of wind, or choosing down styles during warmer seasons with high humidity require more maintenance. We may have to tailor your style accordingly as you don’t want the weather/season working against you.
Only bring one friend/family member
Apart from covid and space requirements, only one guest is recommended to come with you to your trial. More than one person has the potential to muddy the waters when everyone is giving their thoughts at the same time. Try to avoid bringing mums, sisters, friends or relatives who are too opinionated – you are the one that needs to be comfortable on your wedding day.
Enjoy yourself – your wedding is fast approaching and it is extremely exciting seeing your bridal look come together.
